Can my shop contain video / music / .pdf files etc?
It is possible for users to be able to download various file types from
your ekmPowershop, such as videos, music files, PDF's etc. Whilst it is
not possible to actually upload such files to the ekmPowershop server,
it is possible to simply "link" to them.
You would essentially need to have the required files hosted on another
platform external to the ekmPowershop, for example on one of our
hosting servers (www.ekmhosting.com). You would then be able to obtain
a URL (or online path) for the link in your shop to call the file from.
To add a link in a product page to an externally hosted file for
example, please view the following steps:
Step 1 - Log into your ekmPowershop and navigate to the relevant
product page. Click the
 button to access the editable area of
that product.
Step 2 - Enter some text such as "To
download this file, click here." where "here" will be the
clickable link.
Step 3 - Highlight the word "here"
and left-click the "insert link" button in the edit toolbar:
Step 4 - A pop-up window will appear with a "URL" field. Enter the full
URL of the location of the file you wish to link to (without the
http:// element) into this field and select "OK":
Step 5 - You will now see the editable text area with the word "here"
as a hyperlink.
Click "update"
to apply this change and check the link
by viewing that particular product page.
In the aforementioned pop-up window, you can use further tools in there
to enable hyperlinks to open in new browser windows or frames etc.
Also, if set as a standard hyperlink as per the above steps, depending
on the file type and individual machine used to view the page, will
determine what will happen when the link is left-clicked on.
For example, linking to a Word or Excel document will ask the
user if they want to "save" or "open" the file. Linking to a music or
video file will most likely open their default media program while
linking to a .pdf file will most likely open Adobe Acrobat to view the
file, if they have such software installed.
For a user to download and save the file to their machine, they would
simply need to right-click on the link and select "save target as".
