Why were no payment details given on an order?

When you view an order you may get the following message in the Payment Details section of the order...

"No payment information was given, the user may have quit the checkout process before entering any payment details."

If you are using the ekmPowershop Secure Checkout to manually process your credit cards, this error will have appeared because your customer closed their browser when it came to the "enter credit card details" page.

If you are using a 3rd party payment processor (for example: WorldPay, HSBC, Barclaycard ePDQ, SecPay, Protx, PayPal, NoChex, etc...) then this message is caused due to the way most payment gateway systems work...

The way a 3rd party payment gateway works is that when a users gets to the payment stage of the checkout procedure they are moved from your ekmPowershop online shop to the payment service providers own website to make the transaction. Once they have entered their credit card details the customer will be usually greeted with a "Payment was successful" or "Payment was Declined" message and then either automatically redirected back to your online or made to click a link to return to your store.

Until they return back to your ekmPowershop store we are unable to obtain the status of the transaction.

In most cases the customer will return back to your online shop where they will see a "order complete" or "order failed" message and will also be sent an email from your store to let them know their order has been placed.

The main two reasons you get this message are...
  1. The user closed their browser when they were taken to the payment providers website.

  2. The user went through the payment processed but once the payment had been taken they didn't let the payment system return them back to your online shop.
If you are using a 3rd party payment gateway you should always check these orders by logging into your payment service providers admin system to check that the order actually went through or not. For details on how to log into their admin systems please contact your payment service providers directly.
