What Is Stock Control
The ekmPowershop contains a powerful stock control facility which essentially allows stock values to be configured for each item in your shop and for different things to occur when an item becomes 'out of stock'.
If 'stock control' is enabled then you have the ability to determine which of the following is presented to your customers when an item stock level reaches zero:
Display message and Allow purchase.
Using this option will display an out of stock message that you enter yourself within the settings. A customer will be told that the item is out of stock but will still be able to purchase it by proceeding through the checkout process.
Display Message and Disallow Purchase.
Using this option will also display your message but the customer will be told that the item is out of stock and will not be able to buy it due to the "add to cart" button being removed.
Remove Product from display.
Using this option will simply remove the product out of sight to your customers once they are out of stock (Please note you will be able to view the products that are out of stock if you are logged into your account).
Each time an item is purchased, the stock level of that item is updated so it becomes depleted by the quantity of which the last customer purchased. The stock levels are updated as soon as the customer views their order confirmation page, confirming their order has been placed along with their order number.
You can also determine what level your stock must reach before an email alert is sent to you, warning you that the stock of a particular item is running low.
We would recommend using the following guide to gain an understanding of how to set the stock level rules as above:
Stock Control Settings.
Stock levels can also be set for 'product variants'. This means you may be selling for example a t-shirt; and this t-shirt may be available in various sizes. Each size may also be available in a variety of colours. As customers purchase this t-shirt from your shop, the stock levels you physically have left available will undoubtedly differ for each size and for each colour. Instead of there merely being five t-shirts left in stock, you might have:
1 small blue t-shirt left,
2 large green t-shirts left,
2 medium yellow t-shirts left.
Not only this, but you may require different postage costs and images used for the different product variants that you offer.
This configuration is set up using the product variants facility within each product. For a guide on how to configure the product variations, please view the 'Product Variants' guide.
Leading on from this, you as a shop owner can potentially have many product variations of a single product. There is therefore a single place within your ekmPowershop account whereby you can see all the stock parameters in one area, such as the number of items in stock, product prices and any variants, order locations and many more product elements.
Within this area, you can also edit any of the values of these parameters, which makes 'stock control' for an ekmPowershop owner a very easy and user-friendly experience. It is recommended that following guide is viewed to learn more about how this stock control management can be used and where to locate it within your account: Stock Control Management.
