Custom Meta Data

The ekmPowershop allows you as a shop owner to create the meta titles, keywords and description data of each of your shop's pages. This is extremely useful for search engine optimisation as the most relevant meta data for each of your pages will give you a head start on your site being optimised for the search engines.

Custom Meta Title

Meta titles are particularly important for search engines as they advise the search engine what that page will generally be about. The aim is to have that meta title refer to the overall content of the page, meaning it categorises the content of the page including the meta keywords and description that the search engine will also index. If the title has nothing to do with the keywords, description and overall content of the page, then it will not be deemed suitable and will negatively impact the rest of the indexing of that page. This in turn will negatively impact your search engine listings. It is therefore important to make sure the title is relevant. The ekmPowershop by default will display the name of the category or product as the title, as this will also be referenced within the page content itself, automatically meaning the title is already of certain relevance.

If you wish to edit the page title then you simply need to log into your ekmPowershop and go to Settings > Enable/Disable ekmPowershop Features, tick the tickbox next to Custom Meta Data and click "Update". You will now see that when editing a category or a product, there will be an extra field for you to edit the meta title of that page. You can also set the meta title of the homepage in the Marketing & Promotion > Step 3 area of your account.

Custom Meta Keywords and Descriptions

Along with the meta titles, the meta keywords and descriptions can also be edited if need be. The ekmPowershop will automatically generate the most appropriate keywords and description based on the content within that page. This means this is also what the search engines would be expecting to see as meta data, based on the content of the page - so as they see the meta keywords that they are expecting to, then the page is also as optimised as it can be in this area. It is therefore very important to make sure you have as much content on the page as possible and that you reference the keywords as often as possible.

If you wish to customise the meta keywords and description data, then you can do so by editing that page and viewing the Custom Meta Data area within the editing section. Simply make your changes in the yellow fields and click the blue Change Meta Data button once finished. If you decide you do not wish to use your custom changes, then simply leaving the fields blank will mean the ekmPowershop will generate the data accordingly once again.

Caution is advised however when editing your keywords and descriptions. As the ekmPowershop generates the data based on the content of the page, it is not advisable that you simply change the keywords and leave it at that. The keywords you enter will not be relevant to the content in that page, otherwise they would already have been generated - so it is very important to make sure that any changes you make are reflected by changes to your category/product pages main description. You must make sure that this also includes references to those new keywords so that the search engines can justify the meta keywords as being deemed appropriate.

To set the meta data for the home page, just as the meta title, you set these within the Marketing & Promotion > Step 3 area of your account.
