Product Options
When editing a product, you can setup "product options" which allow your customers to select from either a drop down menu or by entering their own text into a text box. An example of this facility would be if you would like to offer a gift wrapping option on the item or asking the end user to add text if you are decorating or personalising the products you offer.
The following guide will show you how to add both a drop down option and a text box option.
Drop Down Option
When editing a product, you will see a screen that looks something like the following. The highlighted area outlines the "product options" element that you need to be referring to:
Click the "add option" button and then select "Drop Down Box" from the next page:
In the "New Option:" prompt, enter "Would you like this item gift wrapped?":
You will then see your new option in the "product options"
section of your product editing area. You now need to add the option choices that your customers can select from. As illustrated below, click on "edit option" to commence this:
It is recommend you enter a choice called "Please select..." and set the priority of this as "one". This means your users know they have to select something which, if they overlook when adding the item into the cart, whatever is set as priority 1 will be displayed in the order that they place - which may not be what they intended on purchasing. You can also set an additional cost for when an item is selected which is added as an extra amount on top of the product price.
As illustrated below, add the choices of "Please select...", "Yes" and "No", clicking the "add" button after entering each one. When entering "Yes ", also enter £2.50 in the price field before clicking "add". You can also use the "order" drop down menus to determine the order in which the choices appear:
When the choices have all been added, click "Done".
You will then be returned to the product editing page at which point you simply click "Update". Proceed through to view the product page as a customer would and you will see the "drop down option" that you have just added:
The next part of the guide will show you how to add a text box option.
Text Box Option
When in the editing section of a product, click on the "add option" button and select "Text Box" as the option type:

In the prompt, enter the name of the option, such as "Enter your message:" and click "add".
You will then be taken back to the product editing page where you will see your text box option that you have added. Clicking "update" will confirm the changes and when navigating to the product page as a customer would, you will see your recent addition:
In addition to setting product options, you can set product variants. These allow variations of a product to be set which also includes stock control and images being available on the variants. For more info on this, please view the Product Variant guide.
