Using The Image File Manager
The ekmPowershop offers a user-friendly file management facility for you to manage all your files such as images, CSS and .pdf documents. The File Manager is obtained within your ekmPowershop in the Design & Layout area.
The File Manager allows you to upload images into a library first, so you can select them from the server when populating an editable element such as the welcome area or spare page etc. You can also pre-populate the library so the images are already there when assigning images to categories and products. An added bonus of the file manager is that you can upload multiple images in one go using the Java applet.
Java is therefore required to be installed on your machine to take advantage of the Java uploader, although you can use the simple uploader instead if you do not wish to install Java. The latest version of Java can be obtained from here. The simple uploader requires you to simply use the "browse" and "upload" buttons at the bottom of the page or use the Java uploader to bulk upload multiple files:
The File Manager contains 6 sub-libraries for the various file types that you may upload. These are:
Product & Category Images - Images purely for category and products
Design Images - For editable elements such as side areas, spare pages etc
Style Sheets - CSS files for a custom design you may be using
Flash Files - Flash files you may wish to include anywhere in the site
Favicon - If you wish to change the favicon of your site
Other Files - For if you wish to upload .pdf files for users to access
Image Files:
The libraries for Product & Category Images and Design Images will allow you to populate them so the images are on the server ready for when you are creating or editing a category or product and wish to assign an image to it. You can also upload images during the addition or editing of a category or product, at which point the image uploaded will be renamed to take on the name of the category or product it is assigned to. This is very useful for search engine optimisation technique.
The Design Images library will allow you to upload images so they become available when adding images into editable areas via the toolbar, as explained here.
Extra Files:
The files in these libraries will show the URL of their location directly underneath which you can copy and paste should you need to use the URL directly. This is useful if you wish to place a link to a .pdf or .doc file as you would use the URL to create a hyperlink to that file for your users to access. More info on creating hyperlinks can be found here whereby you would link to the file address instead of a page address.
Restrictions:
The file manager offers a maximum of 5mb of server space. Please note however, this does not apply to the Product & Category Images libraries. All images must be no larger than 350kb in file size while "other" file types uploaded (such as .pdf documents) must be no larger than 5mb in file size.
